PHIMCOS members and guests attended the formal opening reception of “Classics of Philippine Cartography from the 16th to the 20th Centuries” at the National Museum of the Philippines-Cebu. There were also visits and tours of the 1730 Jesuit House Museum, the Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum, and the BPI Museum in the historic city center of Cebu City and a dinner at the Casino Español de Cebu.
PHIMCOS Members and guests attended the formal opening of “Zamboanga Encounters: Where Land and Sea Meet” at the National Museum-Zamboanga Fort Pilar. There was also a tour of Zamboanga City and its important sites such as Fort Pilar, the BPI Museum, Plaza Pershing, the Yakan Village, and the Universidad de Zamboanga; a visit to Santa Cruz Island arranged by the Tourism Office for some beach time and exploring the mangroves. Members were also guests of Mayor Sitti Djala Turabin-Hataman of Isabela City in Basilan and visited the Marang Marang Floating Cottage and Pahali White Beach.
Members were invited to the formal opening of the “Manila Galleon From Asia to the Americas” Exhibition at the Asian Civilizations Museum. By special arrangement, a private tour was also conducted by Museum Director Kennie Ting and lead curator Clement Onn. Members were also invited to the National Library of Singapore where Senior Librarian Makeswary Periasamy, presented rare maps in their collection.
