A Visit to Zamboanga City and Basilan

25 February – 1 March, 2025

PHIMCOS Members and guests attended the formal opening of “Zamboanga Encounters: Where Land and Sea Meet” at the National Museum-Zamboanga Fort Pilar. There was also a tour of Zamboanga City and its important sites such as Fort Pilar, the BPI Museum, Plaza Pershing, the Yakan Village, and the Universidad de Zamboanga; a visit to Santa Cruz Island arranged by the Tourism Office for some beach time and exploring the mangroves. Members were also guests of Mayor Sitti Djala Turabin-Hataman of Isabela City in Basilan and visited the Marang Marang Floating Cottage and Pahali White Beach.

A Visit to the Asian Civilizations Museum and the National Library of Singapore

15-16 November, 2023

Members were invited to the formal opening of the “Manila Galleon From Asia to the Americas” Exhibition at the Asian Civilizations Museum. By special arrangement, a private tour was also conducted by Museum Director Kennie Ting and lead curator Clement Onn. Members were also invited to the National Library of Singapore where Senior Librarian Makeswary Periasamy, presented rare maps in their collection.

A Visit to the American Historical Collection at Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights

18 January, 2020
Members visit the American Historical Collection consisting of books and documents donated by the American Community. The collection, established by U.S. Ambassador Myron Cowen in 1950, has grown to over 13,000 books, 18,000 photographs, and 200 maps.

Visits to the Museo Oriental in Valladolid; the Museo Nacional de Antropología, La Casa del Mapa, the Archivo Topográfico del Instituto Geográfico Nacional, the Archivo Franciscano Ibero-Oriental, the Museo Naval, the Archivo del Museo Naval, and the Biblioteca Nacional de España in Madrid; the Archivo General de Indias in Sevilla; and the Biblioteca Nacional de Catalunya, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, and the Museu Maritím in Barcelona.

Visits to the Bodleian Library in Oxford; the Natural History Museum Library, the British Library, and the National Maritime Museum in London

A Visit to the Selden Map Exhibit in Hong Kong

7-8 June, 2014
The exhibit was held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and was entitled “Mapping Ming China’s Maritime World – The Selden Map and Other Treasures from the University of Oxford”.
